Everything you need to know about Summit AI Notes
Summit AI Notes is a macOS application that records, transcribes, and summarizes your meetings using AI. Unlike cloud-based solutions, all processing happens locally on your Mac, ensuring complete privacy and data security.
Summit is designed for professionals who need to document meetings while maintaining confidentiality—including consultants, lawyers, financial advisors, healthcare providers, and anyone handling sensitive client information.
The key difference is privacy. While most meeting apps send your audio and conversations to the cloud, Summit processes everything locally on your Mac. This means:
Yes! Summit can record audio from any application on your Mac, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, phone calls, and in-person meetings.
Summit uses AI models that run entirely on your Mac. When you record a meeting, the audio is transcribed using local speech recognition, then summarized using a local language model or optionally a cloud provider you configure. By default, nothing is sent to external servers.
All recordings, transcripts, and notes are stored locally on your Mac in a database. You have complete control over where files are saved and can export or delete them at any time.
Yes, Summit supports optional cloud AI providers for summarization. If you choose to use them, only the transcription text is sent—never the audio recording. However, for maximum privacy, we recommend using local AI models via LM Studio.
Summit is not certified for HIPAA, GDPR or any other regulation, and we do not claim compliance. Transcription runs on your Mac, and with Local Models selected, summaries and chat do too. If you choose a cloud AI provider, it receives transcript excerpts and, for chat, your question with related topics, action items and meeting titles and dates. The app does not separately encrypt its local database or recordings; they rely on macOS protections, so turn on FileVault. Users in regulated industries should check their specific requirements with their legal or compliance team.
Summit AI Notes requires:
Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and newer) provide excellent performance for local AI processing. Alternatively, you can use cloud AI providers with your API Key for faster processing.
Audio recordings use approximately 1-2 MB per minute. A one-hour meeting typically requires 60-120 MB. Transcripts and summaries are text files and use minimal space.
LM Studio is a free application that lets you run large language models locally on your Mac or PC. That way you can setup one AI Server at your office so that your employees could use it even if their Mac aren't that strong.
Summit currently supports 99+ languages transcription and summarization.
