This Cookie Policy explains how Summit AI Notes ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website (summitnotes.app).
Important: The Summit AI Notes application itself does not use cookies, as it's a native macOS application. This policy applies only to our website.
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to website owners.
Cookies can be "persistent" (remaining on your device) or "session" (deleted when you close your browser).
These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas.
Example: Session cookies to remember your preferences while browsing
Duration: Session (deleted when you close your browser)
Before you answer the banner, we measure the website without setting any cookie at all. PostHog — a privacy-focused analytics platform, hosted in the EU — counts page views and clicks on the Download button, and nothing else: no recording of what you click or type, no heatmaps. The analytics writes nothing to your device: no cookie, no local storage, no identifier that outlives the page you are on. Because nothing is stored, we cannot tell that two page views came from the same person, and we get totals rather than journeys.
Provider: PostHog (EU-hosted). IP addresses are anonymised before storage
Purpose: Which pages are read, and which pages lead to a download
Stored on your device: Nothing for the analytics itself. If you arrived from an ad, the campaign tag on that link is kept for as long as the tab is open — see Campaign Attribution below
Accepting on the banner adds one thing to the measurement above: an identifier, kept in a cookie, that lets us see a single visit as one journey across pages instead of as separate page views. Declining stops the measurement entirely — we count nothing at all, cookie or no cookie.
Provider: PostHog (EU-hosted)
Purpose: Follow a visit from page to page, and recognise a returning visitor
Cookies set: ph_* cookies
for anonymous session tracking, only after you accept
Session recordings: Only after you accept. Nothing about your visit is recorded before that, and declining keeps it that way
Your Choice: You can accept or decline analytics via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Your preference is remembered in your browser's local storage
If you arrive from an ad, the link carries campaign tags such as
utm_source.
We keep those tags in your browser so that if you click Download
later — after reading a few pages — we can tell which campaign
brought you. The tag travels on the App Store link itself, which
is how Apple reports the download back to us.
Stored: summit-attribution,
holding only the campaign tags from the link you followed — the
ad, not you. No advertising identifiers such as
fbclid
or gclid
are kept
Duration: Session only (deleted when you close your browser) unless you accept analytics, in which case it is kept in local storage for 90 days
Your Choice: Declining analytics keeps this out of local storage and stops it reaching our analytics, and clearing site data removes it. The campaign tag still rides on the App Store link when you click Download — that is what tells Apple which campaign to credit, and it names the ad, not you
In keeping with our privacy-first philosophy, we do not use:
You have several options for managing cookies:
When you first visit our site, a cookie banner lets you accept or
decline analytics cookies. If you decline, no analytics cookies are
set and nothing about your visit is measured at all — not even the
cookie-free counting described above. You can clear your preference
at any time by removing the summit-cookie-consent entry
from your browser's local storage, and the banner will appear again
on your next visit.
Most browsers also allow you to:
The Summit AI Notes macOS application does not use cookies or similar web technologies because it's a native application, not a web app.
The application stores user preferences and data locally on your Mac as described in our Privacy Policy. This local storage is different from browser cookies and is under your complete control.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.
When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
